24/05/19. Great Black Backed Gulls in conversation, Skokholm.

It was about noon and I was walking down the path from the harbour to the Lighthouse.   Near “sugar loaf” I stopped to watch two great black backed gulls (I think they were, anyway!).    They appeared to be having a conversation.  It seemed mostly one-sided with one being very earnest and outspoken.  At some point this one decided to take flight and soar around the hill.   An oyster catcher then joined in on the action.   Then the partner takes off, and some others arrive join in.  Finally, the two initial principals regain their high point, and resume a slightly different conversation in which the call is more muted; they begin to alternate, and the gap between calling grows slightly longer and longer.
