Afternoon on the 22nd May. It was warm and sunny, with the Puffins busy coming and going; many leaving and others incoming with sand eels and dashing immediately into their burrows.
Always present were 1-2 Gulls, waiting for the opportunity to go after a close-landing Puffin and attack them for their catch; not always successful, but sometimes they were. Occasionally it seemed that the puffins would decide not to land, but continue in their wheeling around the bay before coming in for a landing.
The fast-beating of the puffins’ small wings makes quite a prominent sound. Those not flying chatter to each other with a mumbling murmur.
