25/2/18. Dawn chorus at Gilfach.

A very cold late winter morning at Gilfach.

All natural sounds this morning; no cars, no planes (I think).   First, the Marteg river as it rushes to join the nearby Wye.   One day I hope to see the salmon make their run up this river; I was unlucky this past year.  Then the icy cold wind appears on occasion.  And of course, the birds.

Lots of pheasants this morning; but many more birds as well.   I wish I could identify them all.

Gilfach is an extraordinarily beautiful place and sits in a lovely valley.  It’s just 5 minutes outside Rhayader on the road to Aberystwyth, yet always feels quite remote.
